Adoption Day Planned For Cats Removed From St. Marys Shelter

FOX TOWNSHIP, Pa. —

Cats removed from a St. Marys animal shelter could soon find new homes.

More than 380 cats were removed from the Animal Friends shelter last Thursday.

They were taken to the Elk County Fairground, where a temporary shelter has been created.

Officials said people will have the chance to adopt the cats on Saturday and Sunday.

They added that around 90 percent of the cats could be adopted.

On Thursday, WJAC-TV spoke with volunteers at the Animal Friends shelter for the first time on camera.

They admitted the shelter was overcrowded.

Volunteers said area residents had left cats at the shelter doorstep for years.

They told WJAC-TV that there were sick cats at the shelter, but they were kept separated from the healthy animals.

Even though the disagree with how the animals were removed from the shelter, volunteers said it will be nice to see the cats find homes.
