Agencies, businesses acknowledge Disability employment awareness month

By Brittany Boyer

DUBOIS, Pa. —

October has been proclaimed National Disability Employment Awareness Month.

In Clearfield County, a group of people want to make sure it is acknowledged in our region.

On Wednesday, Penn State DuBois held its annual disability awareness fair and job expo.

Organizers said they have been holding the event for the last three years.

This year, the event was also sponsored by The Arc of Jefferson and Clearfield Counties.

The event had around 30 employers and local agencies on hand for students and adults to speak with.

Organizers said the purpose of the event was to raise awareness about disabilities people may have.  They said that they also wanted to make sure people that are disabled had an opportunity to speak with agencies and have opportunities to speak with employers.

Six different high schools attended the event.

Organizers also opened the event up to Penn State DuBois students and the general public.

They are hoping to continue to annual event.
