WASHINGTON, D.C. —
Alison Burns joined WJACs Washington bureau in 1999. On a daily basis, she covers news events in the Nations Capitol, looking for issues and angles that affect Pennsylvania. Shes been on the scene reporting major stories like the 9/11 attack on the Pentagon and the Anthrax attacks on Capitol Hill. She also traveled to Guantanamo Bay, Cuba to cover the detention and treatment of terror suspects held there at the U.S. Military base.
Alison has conducted two one on one interviews with President George W. Bush at the White House questioning him about his controversial Iraq policies and other issues of local importance like Pennsylvanias 2006 Congressional races.

In her special reports, Alison is an advocate for military veterans and their families. Shes uncovered stories about scams that rob veterans of their pensions; bureaucratic tangles that delay benefits for war widows; and military doctor shortages that leave soldiers with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder waiting for care they desperately need. Her report about a veteran getting a placebo instead of real medicine raised questions about how VA doctors were treating vets from the first Gulf War.
Prior to joining WJAC, Alison was a reporter and fill-in anchor at WTVQ-TV in Lexington, Ky. and a reporter and weekend anchor at WVIR-TV in Charlottesville, Va. Alison started her broadcasting career in radio as the morning news anchor and news director at WBQB-FM in Fredericksburg, Va.
Alison graduated from the University of Maryland, College Park with a b.s. in journalism, and a minor in government and politics. Alison lives with her husband and son in Maryland.
