Altoona Care Center Closed Because Of Owner's Legal Troubles

The Anthony Laurel Manor in Altoona was forced to close early Thursday after officials at the state welfare committee were made aware of criminal charges against the owner.

The owner, John Robert Anthony Sr., is facing a charge of involuntary manslaughter and the neglectful death of a dependant after 48-year-old Gregory Hanks died on the floor of his Johnstown facility, The Moxham Care Center.

Johnstown Police said they believe Anthony knew Hanks was in danger after taking drugs and drinking, but failed to get him help.

The residents living at the Anthony Laurel Manor have been transported to other facilities and officials from the welfare department said they are hoping to keep the building closed because of the criminal charges as well as numerous fire code violations.

Anthony faces up to 25 years in prison.
