Altoona Guns and Hoses game most successful yet

By Melanie Gillespie

BLAIR COUNTY, Pa. —

Altoona-area police officers and firefighters took to the football field Sunday night for the annual Guns and Hoses game.

The charitable flag football game benefits area kids who aren’t able to physically play sports.

The Miracle League of Altoona has been raising money for seven years and it has a special connection to some of the most involved players.

The group raised more money this year than ever before, but there was a very special post-game ceremony.

Altoona Police Officer Shane Strobel won the offensive MVP award in the game.

During the ceremony, he gave the award to Amy Burrows who was the wife of former Logan Township Officer Bill Burrows.

Bill Burrows lost his life in July from an incurable bone and blood cancer.
