Altoona Man Accused Of Fathering Sixth-Grader's Child

ALTOONA, Pa. —

An Altoona man is in jail after a DNA test found he almost certainly fathered a sixth-grader's child.

Michael Dean Frederick, 42, was charged with several counts of rape and sexual assault.

Police said Frederick is listed as a sex offender on the state's Megan's Law Web site. Police said he has a long history of sexual abuse of children and was awaiting trial for drug charges in Blair County.

Frederick's arrest on Monday ends a monthlong investigation into who impregnated the girl. Police started investigating after Children and Youth Services alerted them to the child's pregnancy at the beginning of the year. The baby was born in April.

Two other men underwent DNA testing, including 20-year-old Curtis Adrian Walk of Altoona. Walk has also been charged with abusing the girl. Police say Walk admitted to having sexual relations with her.

A recent DNA test, conducted with blood obtained through a search warrant, found there was a 99.99 percent chance Frederick was the baby's father.

Frederick remains in the Blair County Prison facing rape, sexual assault and other related charges.

The girl and her baby are living with the girl's mother.
