Altoona Noise Ordinance Would Help Restaurants

Altoona Mayor Wayne Hippo said the city council is voting on creating a noise ordinance, which would actually help restaurants in the downtown and commercial parts of the cities attract more guests.

Right now, the PLCB doesn't allow noise from a restaurant or bar to travel outside into the public because Altoona doesn't have a set noise ordinance. Hippo said they're voting on adopting one at Wednesday night's meeting. If approved, restaurants and bars in downtown and commercial areas would be allowed to have outdoor entertainment, as long as they petition the city and PLCB for permission and follow set rules.

Hippo said the noise ordinance is the same one that's in place in Logan Township, and it's similar to successful noise ordinances used in Pittsburgh and Harrisburg.
