Altoona Residents Asked To Conserve Water

Because of a lack of rain and snow, Altoona residents are being asked to cut back on water.

The Altoona City Authority said it is at less than 75 percent capacity because of dry spells earlier this year.

By law, the authority is asking people to cut back on non-essential water use, such as washing cars.

Officials said residents should not be worried but will have to conserve until the first heavy rain or snow.

The city has the most extensive reservoir system in Pennsylvania, serving more than 23,000 homes, schools and businesses throughout 12 municipalities.

Residents who want to wash road salt and dirt off their cars are encouraged to use public car washes, which use recycled water.

Officials said they are monitoring anything that might drain the levels even more. Stay with WJAC-TV News and WJACTV.com for continuing coverage.
