Students in the Altoona Area School District are mourning the tragic loss of a young classmate.
School officials said a 12-year-old seventh grader at Keith Junior High School was killed in a car crash Monday in Carbon County, near Scranton.
Another child, who was just 4-years-old, was killed in the same car crash.
The school has not released the student's name, and there was no word on funeral arrangements as of Thursday.
The children were riding in a car driven by Carl Pope, of Altoona, when the crash occurred.
Neither child was wearing a seatbelt, and both were ejected from the vehicle.
A 7-year-old in the same car was wearing a seatbelt and suffered minor injuries. Pope was transported to a Bethlehem hospital.
The school district and Altoona Regional Health System are providing counseling for students affected by the tragedy.
