But now that the two men have retired after 13 years of transporting veterans from Cambria County up to Altoona, volunteer coordinators are concerned.
The V.A. in Altoona services veterans in eight counties.
The Disabled American Veterans has been working with the the V.A. Voluntary Service Program since 1987. Together they work towards getting veterans the medical assistance they need. In some cases, veterans live too far from a VA hospital. They may also have small or fixed incomes that make getting to the hospital difficult.
