Another Blighted Building Collapses In Johnstown

CAMBRIA COUNTY, Pa. —

It's becoming all to common in the city of Johnstown: buildings that are blighted and vacant crumbling to the ground. The latest home was on Bedford Street. The woman next door said she wishes the city would take care of it.

Sophronia Washington said the home next to her's has been abandoned for more than 20 years. The previous owners passed away and nothing was ever done with the property.

She claimed she warned the city about the blight before and that codes officers came out once. She told WJAC that she heard them laugh about something and walk away.

Then Thursday, the home let go. The top floor and the roof caved in.

"We heard a big crash. I thought it was thunder," said Washington. "I am scared it's going to fall on my house."

WJAC News contacted city manager Curt Davis about the latest collapse. He is on vacation and was not available for comment.
