Anti-NCAA t-shirts spark controversy after Penn State sanctions

By Gary Sinderson

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. —

T-shirts with a message that criticize the way that the National Collegiate Athletic Association sanctioned Penn State are still for sale in several downtown stores, despite sparking heated debate that has captured national attention.

The front of the t-shirts say “National Communist Athletic Association” on the front, and feature “Overstepping their bounds and punishing the innocent since 1906” on the back.

One downtown store owner told 6News that they’ve seen growing interest in similar t-shirts, that criticize the NCAA sanctions following the Jerry Sandusky child sex abuse trial, including the four-year bowl ban, scholarship reductions, $60 million fine, as well as officials vacating more than 100 wins from the Nittany Lions.

Store owners said the t-shirts have been for sale for a few weeks, and are not affiliated with Penn State or licensed through the university.
