Baby Survives Early Birth

Parents Share Their Story

It's a heartwarming story of survival as a Somerset County baby, born weighing only one pound beat the odds to become a healthy 13 pound little girl. You can call her a miracle baby if you like. Pricilla Gowan was born 3 months before she was due. At that time her whole body, from head to toe, could fit in the palm your hand.

Pricilla Gowan was due June 28 decided she didn't want to wait to meet mommy and daddy. On March 7th the pint sized bundle of joy came into the world weighing only one pound. Her parents felt helpless and unsure if their baby girl was going to make it.

Tiffany Gowan, Pricillas mother says, She had IVs in her. She looked, she was always very active and she was always moving. Even, you know - 12 inches long and just a pound she was fighting. But I personally felt like a failure because I couldn't keep her inside me, but she was fighting so hard that I pretty much had a feeling she was going to make it.

Dan Gowan, Pricillas father says, Being a fairly large individual I was kind of intimidated to pick her up at first. In fact, it was probably a few weeks before I tried holding her.

Pricilla was hospitalized for three months after she was born getting daily treatments to develop her lungs. She finally came home, oxygen tank and all, two weeks before her original due date and her parents couldn't be happier.
