Beagle Puppies Stolen From Huntingdon County Family

HOWARD TOWNSHIP, Pa. —

According to Pennsylvania state police, seven beagles were safely recovered after they were stolen from a Howard Township home last Tuesday.

Donna Evans told WJAC-TV Friday that she had a “weird feeling” after a man offered to buy the entire litter of beagle puppies multiple times.

"I just can't believe somebody has the gall to just come up on someone's property and just take something,” said Evans. “It was broad daylight. It's just amazing the way it happened."

According to court documents, troopers found six puppies and their mother with Richard Janickey and Nancy Witters.

Thankful for the quick actions by police, Kenny Evans said he fears his puppies could’ve ended up being sold online or to a puppy mill.

"You run into this kind of guy, it's kind of depressing,” said Evans. “We don't need him, go back to wherever."

Court administrators said Janickey and Witters are facing theft and stolen property charges.

The duo’s preliminary hearing at central court is expected within two weeks.
