Bedford County Reassessment Deadline Nearing

The property reassessment process in Bedford County will be wrapping up by the end of the week.

Commissioner Michael Herline said the biggest problem he's run into is when residents come in to appeal their property and they're bringing in more than one parcel.

Last week, one man filled out a single form and he wanted to appeal 27 properties. The problem caused a big back up in the appeals because each one is supposed to take 10 minutes.

That's why a third appeals board is running, so one commissioner can hear the extra appeals.

As far as Tyler Technologies, LLC goes, Herline said he knows the consultants gave blanketed values to properties.

They paid them $1.9 million for their services, but the county doesn't plan on pursuing legal action at this time.

Herline said he just wants to get the appeals process over with.

"That's the way it's done and that's what's legally accepted in Pennsylvania," Herline said. "It wasn't the each individual properties. As far as Tyler goes, I'd spoken with their representatives several moths ago at the end of the reassessment process asking them if they had a rep go to each individual property and they said they did but I know for a fact that they did not."

The commissioners are asking the reps from Tyler to come in to update their software so the county can implement the new values.
