Bedford Woman Accused Of Stabbing Husband To Death

MONROE TOWNSHIP, Pa. —

Investigators said a kitchen knife was the weapon used in a fatal stabbing during a domestic dispute.

Terri Showalter, 45, of Monroe Township, is accused of fatally stabbing her husband of eight years Sunday night.

Her husband, 52-year-old Gary Showalter, was pronounced dead in home in the 200 block of Northwood Road by the Bedford County Coroner early Monday morning.

Troopers responded to the home after Terri Showalter called 911 just before 10 p.m. Sunday. During the 911 call, police said she asked if police would take her to jail because her husband was bleeding from his arm.

Police said the man was fatally stabbed in the chest, but was also cut on his arm. Police said after they arrived, the woman again called 911 again.

Investigating trooper, Cpl. Brian Hoover, of the Pennsylvania State Police said a kitchen knife was used during the fight. Hoover said there was no sign of a struggle and the couple had no known troubles or run-ins with the law known to county officials.

District Attorney Bill Higgins said no one else was in the home at the time. Troopers said they found alcohol at the scene, but Higgins told WJAC-TV he was not prepared to comment on the findings, only that a toxicology test had been prepared.

Showalter was arrested and taken to the hospital for a stab wound to her knee. She was arraigned before Magisterial District Judge Brian Baker and is being held in the Bedford County Jail

Higgins said he has not been contacted by a lawyer representing Showalter. A preliminary hearing is set for Jan. 6 at 9 a.m.
