Beer Sales at Clearfield Co. Fair Went Well

By Rich Wisniewski

CLEARFIELD, Pa —

A rock concert plus alcohol, sounds like a potentially dangerous mix. But to many peoples surprise, it was just the opposite on Saturday night on the Clearfield County Fair Grounds for the 80's rock band Twisted Sister.

"I couldn't be happier," said Greg Hallstrom, Clearfield County Fair Manager.

There were some concerns at the start, that selling beer for the first time in the fairs 152 year history would ruin the family friendly enviornment, but organizers say, that wasn't the case

"We had no tussles on the track, nobody arguing, nobody getting loud, it couldn't of worked any better," said Hallstrom.

Clearfield County Police Chief Vincent McGinnins told six news that he made sure to staff enough officers for the show, but it turns out, they weren't really needed.

"It was pretty quiet for us," said Chief  McGinnis.

He said, his officers did have to respond to several calls throughout the week of the fair, but nothing relating to the beer sales on Saturday, both fair directors and law enforcement say everyone was pretty well behaved-Or almost everyone.

The rock band Twisted Sister was using some vulgar language early in Saturday's show. Some people defended the band, saying it was a rock concert, while others say it is a county fair. Either way, the fair organizers put a stop to it as soon as possible.

"As soon as I heard it, I talked to as many directors as I could, then I went to the booking agent and I said, 'hey this has got to stop.' Next thing you know, the band made the announcement that they couldn't curse, and they stopped," said Hallstrom.
