Believe It Or Not: We Like These Gas Prices

Cambria County —

Let's go back to a couple of months after 9-11. Gas prices were around a dollar a gallon; some places under a buck. Back then, you probably would have thought $2.69 a gallon would be a sign of Armageddon. Well today, that price is a deal.

Like it or not, our human nature keeps us from exploding from these expensive prices. Basically, we adapted to them.

Charles Hinderliter, Chair of the Division of Natural Sciences at The University of Pittsburgh Johnstown, says the gas prices rose very quickly. So, we naturally got upset. Since we have to travel, we bit the bullet and to an extent have accepted the prices. Now, they are going down. Although they are still considered quite expensive, we are happy.

"Even though that change didn't take us back to where we were, it's taking us down below what we perceive to be an unfair price. So, it's shifting in a direction that we like, so we see it as favorable. So, it actually makes us feel good," says Hinderliter.
