Bellefonte School Board approves tax hike

Tax increase expected to be lower in final budget

By WJAC Web Staff

CENTRE COUNTY, Pa. —

The Bellefonte School Board approved a preliminary budget Tuesday night that initially calls for a tax increase higher than the percentage allowed under state law.

The Centre Daily Times reported the $45 million budget proposal includes a 2.8 percent tax hike, but 2.2 percent is the maximum allowed without an exemption.

The school district's fiscal director told the newspaper that he expects the increase to be much smaller when the budget is formally adopted in May or June.
