Benezette Hotel expands, credits thousands who visit Elk Visitor Center

By Brittany Boyer

BENEZETTE, Pa. —

It's a town with a population of just over 200, but its also a town attracting more than 200,000 people a year.

In 2010, the Elk Country Visitor Center opened its doors for the first time in Benezette.

The multi-million dollar facility would serve as a learning center and tourist attraction for those visiting Elk County.

Since its opening, employees tell us they are seeing roughly 200,000 visitors a year.

For local businesses, that means they are getting an influx in business.

Brian Kunes, owner of the Benezette hotel credits the visitor center as the reason why they're able to expand.

The hotel and restaurant has been in the area since the 1800's.

The popular hotel and restaurant is currently undergoing its first expansion project.

Kunes said the area has become so busy, they have had to turn customers away because the restaurant is packed.

The new expansion project will allow them to comfortably seat an additional 100 guests.

Kunes said through the expansion project, they'll also be able to hire up to six new employees once it's complete in September.
