Best Holiday Baking Tools

With the holidays coming, you may be spending more time in the kitchen than usual. So the kitchen pros at the Good Housekeeping Institute have been busy testing items designed to make holiday baking easier.

"If everybody in your house argues over the edges of the brownies, we have a solution to your problem," says Sharon Franke, Kitchen Appliances Director, Good Housekeeping Institute. "The new Edge Brownie Pan has a new maze-like design so every single piece comes out with at least two edges. It was easy to fill; it was easy to bake. The brownies baked very evenly, and it was easy to get them out of the pan."

If your kitchen is practically a cookie factory for the holidays, Good Housekeeping suggests getting the Cuisinart 7-Quart Stand Mixer. "It's an expensive mixer, but it's really a mixer for a serious baker. It can make up to 15 dozen cookies, so you can double or triple recipes. It has a fold button, which means you'll never over-beat cakes, things that you want to be real delicate. And we found that we never had to scrape down the bowl. It managed to scrape down the sides by itself," says Franke.

For Hanukkah, Good Housekeeping recommends NordicWare’s Star of David Bundt pan. The cast-aluminum bundt pan is made in the shape of the symbol of Israel, the Star of David, so it’s great for Hanukkah or other Jewish holidays.

And if you like fancy cookie molds but don’t have the time to create them, Good Housekeeping suggests the Wilton Mini Holiday Cookie Pan. It has 12 indentations in holiday shapes and you don’t need to grease the nonstick surface.

A final note: The Edge Brownie Pan works for any packaged mix that calls for a 9-inch by 9-inch or 9-inch by 13-inch pan. For more holiday baking tips, check out the December issue of Good Housekeeping or visit www.goodhousekeeping.com.
