Bill Introduced To End Ban On Sunday Hunting

CLEARFIELD, Pa. —

A bill has been introduced in the State House that would allow hunting on Sundays.

Many hunters in the Alleghenies said allowing hunting on Sunday is one way to sell more hunting licenses and get more kids interested in the sport.

With packed school schedules and full-time jobs for parents, they added many people just don't have the time to head out into the woods on Saturdays. Sunday hunting would give them one more day to do that.

The Pennsylvania Game Commission has already thrown its support behind the plan, and supporters said it's the last of the state's blue laws, which once including the closure of retail stores on Sundays.

According to the State House website, the bill that would end the Sunday hunting ban has been passed on to the game and fisheries committee.

Seven states across the nation ban Sunday hunting. It's been banned here in Pennsylvania for more than 130 years.
