Bishop McCort Still Cleans After Flood

Johnstown —

School officials at Bishop McCort High School say they have a lot of cleaning done even though there's more to do. The first floor has been disinfected and the rooms dehumidified. Most of the carpet and dry wall still needs replaced. School officials are still working to get some books and music materials replaced. Some music instruments and uniforms were destroyed though. During the cleanup, summer programs and summer school moved to different areas of the building. School officials are also working to prevent this flooding from happening again.

Ken Salem, the Assistant Principal at Bishop McCort High School tells Channel 6 News, "We need to speak with the city to see what we can do on Osborne Street to try and control the overflow. Possibly repositioning some of the sewers, maybe maintenance checks a little more closely during severe weather. And we also need to look at our building. There are some things we think we can do around the window wells and courtyard area."

The entire first floor of the high school was filled with a foot of water after heavy rains in Johnstown in June. The damage to the high school is close to $80,000. The community and students helped clean. Salem says the building should be ready in time for the start of school, the last week of August.
