Bittersweet End To Horse Search And Rescue

After hours of searching, crews in Cambria County found three missing horses alive and one dead.

Four horses went missing from their stables in Portage Township late Sunday evening.

The owners searched for the animals for hours, tracking their footprints.

Eventually emergency crews found two of the horses along the edge of Beaverdam Reservoir

Crews said the other two horses were in the water and one was still alive.

Using a ladder and rope, crews were able to pull the horse to safety.

Crews said there is some evidence the horse who survived tried to pull the other horse out of the water, but fell in as well.

A vet will be examining the horses to make sure they did not sustain any additional injuries, but they appeared to be doing well shortly after the rescue.
