Nathan Aughenbaugh, of Tyrone, was jailed on a parole violation.
Aughenbaugh was found hanging with a bed sheet around his neck tied to a bar in his cell Thursday afternoon.
Aughenbaugh was classified as suicidal and said prison workers were checking on him every couple of minutes, according to officials at the prison.
Officials said it appears that prison workers did follow proper procedure in attending to Aughenbaugh before the suicide.
