Blair County Plant To Temporarily Shut Down

For the first time in more than 30 years, a Blair County plant may temporarily shut down operations.

Officials with the Appleton Paper Mill plan to shut down their Roaring Spring plant for one to two weeks before the end of the year, according to Tuesday's Altoona Mirror.

Market conditions and the slumping economy are being blamed for plans to temporarily lay off employees and close the plant.

The closure will mark the first total mill shutdown at Roaring Spring since 1975. Temporary layoffs will also result at the company's plant in West Carrollton, Ohio.
