Blood donor donates 31 gallons of blood over six decades

By Rich Wisniewski

DuBois, Pa. —

In 1954, DuBois resident John Sullivan was in the United States Army and stationed in Germany. A sergeant came in and picked five random guys to donate blood, and he was one of the five.

Since that day, Sullivan, who is now 78 years old,has continued to give blood. In fact,he has given a total of 31 gallons since 1954.

He says it makes him feel good knowing that the blood he giveshelps out those who desperately need it.

"I hate to sound corny, but I do it because it's the right thing to do. There's too many people out there that need that blood. Every little bit helps," he said.

He recently gave blood, and he is a regular at the Red Cross Blood Bank, and he says as long as he can do it, he will.
