Blood Drive Under Way To Curb Shortage, Save Lives

WJAC-TV teamed up with the American Red Cross on Thursday for Blood Donor Day, an annual attempt to raise blood inventories in the region during one of the most critical times of the year.

Red Cross officials said there is a desperate need for blood and set a goal of 75 pints for Thursday's event.

Officials said they have less than one day supply of all blood types and less than half-day for some universal types.

This year's Blood Donor Day has a Hawaiian luau theme, and each person who gives blood will get a Race to Save Lives t-shirt plus a luau canteen.

The drive is at the Richland Fire Hall from 1 to 7 p.m.
