Body pulled from Juniata River

By Bill Wadell

MOUNT UNION, Pa. —

Mount Union Fire Department officials tell 6News that a body was pulled from the Juniata River Thursday night.

MUFD public information officer Jeff Harman said the body of an adult male was found by Newtown Wayne fire officials at least 30 feet from the river bank around 8 p.m.

The body was discovered about one mile downstream from the location where search crews have been looking for the man who jumped into the Juniata River around 2 a.m. on New Year’s Day.

A Mount Union police officer said when she activated her lights, she saw 20-year-old Julius Rogers jump onto a concrete barrier on the Route 747 bridge and witnessed him roll off and fall into the water.

Authorities said the body has not been identified and an autopsy is scheduled at J.C. Blair Memorial Hospital.

Investigators wouldn’t say if the incident was accidental or if alcohol played a factor.
