BARREE TOWNSHIP, Pennsylvania —

Kenneth Roberts Ayers was found dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound in Warriors's Mark Township after fleeing from his home where he shot his estranged wife and two year-old son.

Police say it started off as a custody exchange and did not end peacefully as Ayers got into a physical altercation at the house on Manor Hill road.

Two year-old Michael Ayers was shot and killed by his father this morning in Barree Township, Huntingdon County, according to the district attorney. Zanic he also shot his estranged wife, who is also his son's mother.  The woman was airlifted to Altoona Regional with gunshot wounds to the leg and head area, Zanic said. Her condition is not known.

Barron Stine. who owns the land where Ayers fled,  says he spotted a pick-up truck drivng across the street. This is where Ayers was found.

Moments later, police and emergency crews surronded Stine's land where Ayers was said to be.This caused panic to people who lived in the area. Stine said he contacted his neighbors to assure their safety.

"It is a lot to be concerned about. If someone killed someone, they can do it again," he said.

Police were on a manhunt and hours later found Ayers car in a rural area along Halfmoon Valley road. It appears he held investigators at bay for awhile until he shot himself.

Investigators were still at both scenes as of 5 p.m. Saturday.
