Broad Top City Residents Face Extended Water Outage

BROAD TOP CITY, Pa. —

A leak in the borough’s old water line is blamed for the water outage in Broad Top City.

As of Tuesday afternoon, 70 customers were without running water.

When the leak was discovered over the weekend, nearly 180 homes and businesses in the Huntingdon County community were without service.

“We have a major leak. It drained all of the water we had in our tank,” said Kaye Don O’Neal of the borough water authority. “We had a crew here for the last two days trying to find it to get it fixed and so far, we haven't been able to pinpoint it."

The extended water outage have been inconvenient for Broad Top City residents, including Laura Strunk, who talked with WJAC-TV as she filled up containers from a water buffalo at the borough building.

"It’s not very pleasant,” said Strunk. “Not when you have 10 people living in your house and everybody's grumpy because we're doing birdbaths. Put a little water in a bowl and try and wash up."

A water buffalo has been set up for residents at the Broad Top City borough building on Hazel Street.

Water Authority officials are hoping to have service restored by Wednesday afternoon.
