Cambria City Residents Fearful Of Future

CAMBRIA COUNTY, Pa. —

Channel 6 News broke the story on Monday that the Catholic Diocese of Johnstown-Altoona is planning to close five churches in Johnstown and merge them into one. It's not just the future of the churches that's uncertain though. Residents are also concerned about the entire community.

"It would affect you even if you aren't a Catholic in the West End," said Rose Howarth with the West End Improvement Group. "These churches are a part of what this neighborhood's history is all about."

That history is most prevalent during Labor Day weekend at Ethnic Fest. It's a time where each church shows off its ethnic heritage with special food items and music. West End residents said they fear the popular event may never be the same.
