Cambria County Commissioner Says Emergency System Works Fine

WJAC-TV News is still receiving e-mails from firefighters who are upset because of the emergency call system. Cambria County Commissioner P.J. Stevens admitted that there are some problems with the system but said it is an improvement from the old one.

In fact, a new radio tower was just placed in the Hastings and Patton Area on Thursday. The tower will help the reception in the east side of the county. It is hard to get a clear radio signal in the area because of its hilly terrain.

Ashville firefighters said that they were not able to hear one another on the radio system during a fire in Coupon last week. Stevens insists that every call to and from the 911 center was responded to. He said if the fire crews were having problems communicating, it was because of misuse.

The new tower is up and running, but officials are still doing some tests to make sure it will work properly.
