At a news conference on Tuesday, officials announced that the county-run nursing home is back to having a full license. The Department of Health had put the home on a provisional license in March because of lack of staff and procedural issues.

The facility was not permitted to take new patients for about six weeks. Now, the home can accept new patients, but on a limited basis.

Laurel Crest has been plagued with numerous issues. Through the month of May, Laurel Crest lost money, announced it was losing more than $300,000 in Medicare and Medicaid reimbursements, and stopped taking new admissions.

In June, Laurel Crest started making the necessary improvements and employment changes to not only regain its license, but to also make the progress necessary to remain open.

On June 13, the county received a good report from the Department of Health, indicating the county had made substantial progress.

Officials said there are still 13 discrepancies that must be dealt with by September. Stay with Channel 6 News and WJACTV.com for continuing coverage.
