Cambria County Police Investigate Possible Link Between Bomb Threat, Bank Robbery

Investigators in Cambria County have not yet determined if a bomb threat and a bank robbery are connected.

Emergency dispatchers said a voice that sounded like a young male called in a bomb threat to an East Taylor Township school, promoting the early dismissal of Conemaugh Valley High and both township elementary schools Thursday.

A K-9 unit searched for explosives, but none were found. While police were responding to the threat, the First Summit Bank -- on nearby Park Hill Drive -- was robbed.

The robber used a knife to rob the bank and remained at large as of Friday afternoon.

The man is described as white, between 5 feet 8 inches and 5 feet 10 inches tall and was last seen wearing a blue and white sweatshirt. After demanding cash, the robber fled into a nearby wooded area. Neither a K-9 unit nor a helicopter was able to find the man.

The principal of Conemaugh Valley High said all students are fine.

Anyone with information about either incident is asked to immediately call police.
