According to the Tribune Democrat, purses are going missing from shopping carts at various supermarkets.
Recently, Windber resident Wendy Durant was arrested on suspicion of stealing two purses.
Police said they believe more people are behind the rash of purse thefts.
Anyone with information is asked to call police.
