Cambria County Run Nursing Home Put Up For Sale

Cambria County commissioners have approved an agreement with a Chicago-based real estate company to sell the county-run nursing home.

Staff members and residents at Laurel Crest learned the news at a meeting with commissioner Thursday afternoon.

Commissioners said money was the biggest reason for the decision to put the home up for sale. In the past three years, it has lost more than $10 million.

Commissioners said in order to maintain jobs and the residents' well-being, they had to put it up for sale.

Staff members tell WJAC-TV they're worried they might lose their benefits or jobs if the county sells it.

If Laurel Crest is sold, the county would pay 3 percent of what it goes for.

Commissioners plan on trying to sell it until the end of the year before grouping and finding another solution.
