Car catches fire in Greater Johnstown elementary school parking lot

By WJAC Web Staff

CAMBRIA COUNTY, Pa. —

Crews are still determining the cause of a car fire in a Greater Johnstown elementary school parking lot Monday morning.

Officials said the fire happened while students were arriving for classes at Westside Elementary School.

The fire appears to have started in the engine compartment of the car, officials said, but it was burning so hot that the fire spread to a sport utility vehicle parked in front of it.

Officials said students were never in danger, but fire crews blocked off the entrance to the school, making it difficult for buses and parents to drop students off.
