Car Owners Defaulting Payments in Large Numbers

The amount of car repossessions are up 15% from last year. The problem stems from people buying cars they can't afford. One local repossession company told WJAC-TV that some people who default on their payments, do it on purpose.

First Credit Resources in Conemaugh Township--the largest repossession company in the state told WJAC-TV some people know they can't afford extravagant cars but buy them because they know they can get away with it. In the summer some people will buy convertibles but by fall they stop payments and call repossession companies like First Credit and tell them where they can pick up the car.

Rules for getting a loan were relaxed and people with bad credit could get loans repeatedly from some national banks. Since the markets downturn it has been tougher to get loan.
