CENTRE COUNTY, Pa. —

The investigation continues into what's being termed a "horrific" case of animal cruelty in Centre County.

Friday morning, county officials called in two, out-of-county animal control officers to help expedite the investigation on a farm where close to a dozen cattle have died.

Earlier in the week, State Police reported at least several cattle were dead on a rural  farm in northern Centre County.

But once police and others got on scene, they said it was obvious the was a herd of cattle at the farm had been neglected for a long time.

Centre Co. commissioner Steve Dershem showed pictures of dead cattle with 6 News.

The farm, near the village of Pine Glen, is the scene of at least 11 cattle.  Officials said the animals starved to death.

“It was horrific,” Dershem said of the scene.  “I can’t imagine what the animals went through.”

Good Samaritans have been showing  up with hay to feed the remaining herd.   The farm, except for the cattle has been vacant for months.

Friday morning, two Blair County animal control officers were deputized to work in Centre to work at the farm.

This issue has again raised the question of Centre County not having its own animal control officer.   That issue is currently being addressed in the state legislature.

State police said animal cruelty along with the possibility of other charges is expected to be filed soon.
