Centre County Heart Walk Kicks Off Sunday

By Marty Radovanic and Bill Wadell

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. —

Organizers of the Centre County Heart Walk are hoping to raise $65,000 for the American Heart Association at the annual event on Sunday.

As part of a mission organized by her older sisters, 23-month-old Aubrey Tusar was selected as this year’s Heart Walk Heart Hero.

Family members explained that Aubrey and her twin sister Ainsley were both diagnosed with congenital heart defects as newborns.

“They were both diagnosed with Turner syndrome, but other than that, they are active, healthy two year old toddlers,” said father Corey Tusar.

“(Aubrey) ended up with a bicuspid aortic valve, that they diagnosed at a day old,” said mother Erin Tusar. “Then, at two months old, she had aortic stenosis and it’s just kind of gone on down the line from there.”

The Tusar’s said both girls are active, they enjoy swinging on the play set in their Pleasant Gap backyard and that so far, their conditions only call for close monitoring and checkups.

The twins older sisters told 6News that they got involved with the Centre County Heart Walk as part of their confirmation project with their church.

“It just helps out people and it would really help out my little sister,” said Morgan Tusar. “I think that would be very nice of people to come and support her.”

“Twins are hectic, but they’re really fun,” said Lauren Tusar. “Aubrey can get crazy, but she’s really sweet.”

WJAC-TV is a proud media sponsor of the Centre County Heart Walk.

6News Anchor Marty Radovanic will emcee the event, set to start at 1 p.m. at Millbrook Marsh Nature Center.
