Centre County School District Deeper In Debt Than Expected

Centre County —

The deficit in the Philipsburg-Osceola school district is larger than what was anticipated, according to the district's auditor. The information was announced at the school board meeting on Monday evening. District officials expected the deficit at the end of this year to be $616,000; however, the auditor has found that it will be $900,000 because of uncounted expenses. That pushes the overall deficit to $1,538,471. Still, superintendent Charles Young says he is confident the district will be able to come up with a strategy to cover the shortfall without making further cuts to jobs or schools.
