Clearance On Homes

Johnstown —

A number of Johnstown properties are up for sale and the city is determined to make them useful. Just like clearance tables in retail stores, these homes are on that table in the real estate market. With the government's offer, if you have $1,600 you can own property in the city.

Government officials seized roughly 200 properties from the Kohler family, who had bars and restaurants with illegal gambling machines. Money from these machines was used to buy these homes. With the men caught, the homes are now for sale. Prudential Speicher Select Properties are marketing the homes for the government. The Johnstown Redevelopment Authority is a buyer in the process of purchasing homes in Kernville. Their goal is to add to their property and use it for economic development.

Ron Repak is the Director of the Johnstown Redevelopment Authority. He said, "Somebody wants 10,000 square feet? They have to have 40 parking spaces with it? These will fit into that nicely. It will create either the parking or a place to actually construct the commercial enterprise."

Johnstown City Manager Jeff Silka said, "The city is not a landlord. We're not going to be a landlord. If there's property out there that's left it's going to be used for development."

The roughly 50 homes left are being sold as is, but officials say offers are coming in fast. If you want to buy just make sure to do your homework first.
