Clearfield Co. Church Damaged By Logging Truck Rollover

Firefighters Say Impact From Truck, Logs Pushed Portion Of Church Off Foundation

BRADY TOWNSHIP, Pa. —

A Clearfield County church has temporarily closed its doors, citing structural concerns after it was hit by a truck Monday.

Investigators said a logging truck negotiating a curve on Route 219/322 in the village of Salem lost control and veered into a grassy area around 11:40 a.m. The truck then rolled onto the driver's side, slid across a parking lot and clipped the corner of the Salem United Methodist Church.

Officials said most of the logs flew off of the truck, hitting the church and pushing a side entrance extension of the building off its foundation. State police confirmed in a news release that the crash caused "numerous gouges" in the building and some of the logs struck the church, causing damage to the structure.

Troopers told WJAC-TV that inspectors will carefully inspect the damaged truck to determine if there was a mechanical failure.

Salem United Methodist Church Board of Directors Chairperson Barbara Muth said that a funeral and wedding set to be held inside the church will likely need to be held at another venue.

State police said the truck driver, Clayton Null, of Reynoldsville, suffered a minor injury to his left hand.
