CLEARFIELD COUNTY, Pa. —
Commissioners in Clearfield County presented the 2013 county budget at their regularly scheduled meeting on Tuesday.
The budget will be advertised for 20 days before it can be adopted.
The commissioners have presented a budget that shows no tax increase.
Officials said there has not been a tax increase in the county since 2006.
County commissioners said that taxes will remain at 18.5 mills.
"We still have over five millions dollars in our general fund balance, so Clearfield County is in good financial shape," said Clearfield County commissioner, Joan-Robinson McMillen.
6 News obtained a copy of the proposed budget for the county.
Compared to the 2012 budget, it shows that some areas will see cuts, while others will receive more funding.
"We were very responsible. We wanted to have a zero balance this year with no deficit. I think people expect that of government," Robinson-McMillen said.
According to the summary of funds 6 News obtained, Children & Youth Services is expected to get more money than last year.
The summary said that in 2012, Children & Youth Services received $6,077,538 from the county. In 2013, the county is expecting to give them $6,996,331.
Robinson-McMillen said some areas of CYS will see a cut in funding, but overall they are receiving substantial money from the county.
The hotel tax fund is also expected to receive more money. In 2012 it received $390,000. In the budget for 2013 it is expected to get $500,000.
According to the summary of funds, commissioners plan to put more money into the capital reserve. In 2012, $396,373 was set aside, in 2013 they anticipate putting aside $740,191.
Robinson-McMillen said they also plan on putting about $400,000 aside from the money that they received from Act 13.
While some areas will see an increase in funding, officials said there are some areas that need to be cut.
Officials said Domestic Relations will see a small cut. In 2012, the county allocated $1,437,147 to the department. According to the summary of funds, in 2013 it is expected to receive $1,432,770.
The 911 fund is also expected to see a cut in funding. In 2012, it received $1,991,716, in 2013 it is expected to receive $1,697,104.
"You need to ask yourself, 'how much did I spend this year? Can I justify an increase in that next year? Or, can I get away with a little bit more?,'" said Robinson-McMillen.
Officials said no service to the county will be cut.
Robinson-McMillen said she is proud of the budget they have proposed.
