Clearfield Co. Looks To Educate Public On Synthetic Drug Dangers

LAWRENCE TOWNSHIP, Pa. —

Police departments are teaming up with Clearfield County officials to educate the public on the dangers of synthetic drugs.

Officials said the drugs are legal, and items used to create drugs such as "blizzard" are sold at local stores.

They added that some local convenience stores even sell synthetic marijuana.

Lawrence Township police officers said people have been taken to the hospital after abusing the drugs.

The drugs are legal for anyone older than 18. Police departments are looking to educate kids and parents about the dangers of these drugs.

"If an 18-year-old can buy it, we're not sure they are only going to have it because they have 16-and 17-year-old friends they share it with," said Officer Mike Morris, of Lawrence Township Police.

Since the drugs are legal, police can't demand stores remove the items from their shelves.

They added that the drugs are hard to ban. Manufacturers can change a few ingredients to get the drugs back on the market, police said.
