Clearfield Co. officials remind voters no photo ID is required

By Brittany Boyer

CLEARFIELD COUNTY, Pa. —

Commissioners in Clearfield County want to clear the air about election day.

In recent days residents have expressed concern and confusion about whether or not they need a photo ID to vote on Tuesday.

In a recent advertisement displayed in two Clearfield County newspapers, the Clearfield County commissioners published their official notice of election ballot.

The advertisement told voters where the polling places in the county are and who is running for certain races.  Part of the advertisement also had a part about the Pennsylvania voter ID.  In the advertisement it told voters what an acceptable ID is.

Due to the confusion some people have expressed, 6 News sat down with Clearfield County commissioner John Sobel for answers.

"Voters will be asked to present a photo ID, but whether or not they have that same photo ID they will still be permitted to vote as always so long as they are registered, and so long as they meet the normal ordinary voting requirements that we all have to meet, and have had to meet for years," said Sobel.

People working the polls in Clearfield County on Tuesday will still ask to see a form of ID. While they will be asking, you don't have to show it.  Sobel said the county and other municipalities are using this election day as a trial run for when the law goes into effect.

"I do think it's a good idea, because it gets folks in the frame of mind they need to be in when they go to vote. There's nothing more important than exercising your right to vote in this country," he said.

Polls will open at 7 a.m. and will close at 8 p.m.
