Clearfield County Catholic Churches Running Strong

DUBOIS, Pa. —

After this week's news of church mergers in Cambria County, Channel Six News spoke with Erie Diocese officials.

The Erie Diocese includes Clearfield, Elk and Jefferson counties.

Officials said parishes in DuBois are healthy.

Several years ago, two parishes were merged in the city.

But officials said that decision hasn't hurt attendance.

The Erie Diocese bishop also touted the success of the DuBois Catholic School.

The school relocated to a new building in 2002 and local church leaders said enrollment is strong.

Church leaders said they do expect to experience problems in the future.

"It's going to catch up with us," said Father Ed Walk. "But so far, we haven't had problems with attendance or drawing priests to the area."
