Clearfield County SPCA opens new facility

By Brittany Boyer

CLEARFIELD COUNTY, Pa. —

For the last 21 years the Clearfield County SPCA has been operating out of a small house in Philipsburg.

On Thursday, the organization moved into its new facility.

The new building is located along 21st Street in Clearfield.

Pamela Smith, the Clearfield County SPCA director told 6 News that this move was much needed.

"I have to keep pinching myself. I can't believe it is real. It is so absolutely beautiful, and it's so nice for the animals," Smith said.

Crews began building the new facility over the summer.

The Lanager family jump-started the project by providing $1 million to complete the worksite..

The Lanager family underwrote the project in memory of their daughter, Jamie, who died in 2009.

Smith said she is grateful they were able to move into a bigger facility.

"We just hold them in a so much better way now. They have heated floors so they're warm and cozy and the kennels are safe. There's no broken wires," Smith said.

Even though the building is complete, Smith said the organization is still trying to fundraise an additional $300,000.

Smith said this money will be used to finish purchasing items for inside the building. It will also help pay for bills and payroll.

"We depend on the public to help support us or we just can't be here," she said.
