Clearville Slaying Shocks Neighbors

CLEARVILLE, Pa. —

Police said a Bedford County man killed his father Monday morning before taking off in his car. And neighbors said they knew something was going to happen, but they never thought it would be a homicide.

Harold Turner's Clearville neighbor Katie Swope said her family has always been concerned about him, not as much for their own safety, but his.

"One day he'd be fine and the next day he'd come over and you could tell something was wrong with him. We actually always thought if he hurt someone, he would only hurt himself, but unfortunately, he took it out on one of his parents," said Swope.

Swope said Harold Turner Sr.'s death comes as a shock, especially because police said his son is the suspect. Swope said she went to school with Turner, she lives by him and she considers the whole Turner family friends. She said he was always a good student and a good neighbor, but his behavior was becoming increasingly strange.

"He has always been on medication, but I think lately, they were trying to fix it so he didn't have to be on all the medications that he needed to be on," she said.

Police said Turner wanted to borrow his parents' car. When they refused, then he killed his father, police said. However, Swope said she thinks Turner just snapped and now they haven't only lost one friend, but two.

"We love the whole family. It's just very sad that his father won't be here anymore," Swope said.
